I have 2 years of experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and grade levels. My primary focus is English but I am well equipped to tutor nearly every academic subject. My tutoring style focuses on ensuring a deep understanding of the basis and root of subjects. I believe that without a solid grasp of the fundamentals and principles that make up a certain subject, it will be difficult to learn new things. My goal in the tutoring session is to help with not just the homework or test prep at hand, but to make sure that you learn skills and tools to help you succeed on your own.

I tutor all levels of English courses up to a university level as well as a number of other challenging courses including, but not limited to, AP Literature, AP U.S. Government, AP Art History, and AP U.S. History. What I love about Tutoring: I love learning, and I love problem solving. Learning *effective* ways to learn is just as (if not more) important than learning a particular subject. I've found few greater joys in life than when I can help someone (child or adult) learn how to overcome a problem and break through a barrier that was holding them back. I know different people learn in different ways, yet so few of us are exposed to different techniques that can help us thrive where before we failed. No matter what subject I'm tutoring, I strive to help the person to not only master the concepts, but to also develop faster and more effective methods for learning, and ideally create a lifelong love affair with understanding new things.

TUTORING/TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Over 23 years experience as a teacher, tutor, mentor, recreation and arts programmer for pre-school all the way to senior citizens. Currently I serve as an Education Docent for the Getty Villa Museum for grades K-12. I have tutored high school Spanish, having taken Spanish One, Spanish Two and Conversational Spanish in College. I have had the pleasure of teaching in all types of situations; special needs, behavior disorder and the At-Risk student populations all the way to the high performing advanced placement pupil.
